Home Cook & Recipe Creator

Marissa Blake grew up in a modest farmhouse on the outskirts of Des Moines, where the kitchen was the family’s unofficial living room. Her earliest memory is of her grandmother coaxing dough into perfect, buttery crescents while the scent of fresh rosemary drifted through the open windows. Those quiet mornings, spent watching flour dust settle like snowfall on the countertop, taught her that food is as much about patience as it is about flavor.

After earning a degree in English literature, Marissa moved to Chicago and found herself working nights in a bustling diner, where she began to remix classic Midwestern comfort dishes with unexpected twists—think chipotle‑infused mac and cheese and sweet‑potato gnocchi topped with a drizzle of maple‑bacon glaze. It was there she realized that the stories she loved to read could be told on a plate, and that a well‑crafted home‑cooked meal could be both nostalgic and daring.

In 2024 she launched TastymomKitchen, a digital archive of more than 200 family‑tested recipes ranging from Sunday‑roast staples to quick weekday fixes. Today, Marissa is driven by a single conviction: that the best meals are those that bring people together around the table, reminding them that love, like good broth, needs time to simmer.

I believe that comfort food should never be a compromise—it’s a celebration of tradition, memory, and bold flavor, and I’m unapologetically committed to making every home‑cooked dish unforgettable.
